But MacGinnis admits, "These are not our best examples of the level of passion that people have for this game. Some people can't sit down for five minutes and play a good role-playing game. We love the production values and animation, but people love to play these games.

"Part of what attracts fans to these games is the great parts, like the combat and the storyline," he says. And this is the key difference between video games and Hollywood.

In fact, many movie makers feel that using the best parts of video games for their movies is a very smart way to tap into the massive audience. There are just so many reasons to use video games for films – they have just about any element that could be used for the plot of a film (as long as it's less than seven minutes long), and they can be put together in such a way that they work on a much smaller budget than with films. So why not make the part of the movie that needs to be more realistic as a game element?

This isn't just limited to just games. In some cases, it's quite easy to match the story of a game to the tone of a movie – just make sure that you have a character who looks like they're in the movie. This is a short term solution, but it will pay off in the long run.

MacGinnis says that using a game as a supplement to a film is just as good. "Sometimes, though, you can create another element of the film, either in terms of the experience of the game or the special effects."
